Competence Based Education

 

        This course gives the participants the theoretical and practical knowledge of internet and its applications in various fields. Courses like Web creation, Business application on E-Commerce, Multimedia, mail, etc. The curriculum is aimed at training the engineering graduates to enable them to the better opportunities in Information technology sector.

Program Description:
 
Part I - INTERNET ACCESS
               
            1.   Overview of Internet:
                             History, Computer networking, Developments, Taxonomy of Internet and Applications.   
 
               2.   Internet Protocols:
                              TCP/IP protocol suite, Application Protocols:  Email, SNMP, SMTP, ping, finger, FTP, Telnet, Other tolls like finger, nslookup, whois, ping, PETSIM.
 
             3.   Network Connectivity:
                               Network Connectivity, WANs in India, WANs in world, Modern, hubs, bridges, routers, switches, PC to Internet connection protocols, PPP, SLIP.                                                 
            
Part II -  WEB SITE DEVELOPMENT
 
            HTTP protocol overview: Versions of HTTP protocols. Introduction and history of HTML, Creating a blank HTML page, HTML tags and attributes, Inserting GIF and JPEG graphics, Inserting Java applets, fonts, tables, forms, image maps, frames, Dynamic HTML, Introduction to JavaScript, JavaScript basics.
 
Part III - ADVANCES INTERNET TECHNOLOGY
 
             High Speed Networks, MPLS, VPN, Multimedia protocols, IPV6, M-Commerce, Wireless High network architecture, Introduction to mobile computing, Mobile IP, Education on Demand, Distance Education.
 
Part IV - TECHNICAL DOCUMENTATION
 
              Basic Linux Commands, Latex, vi editor, xfig, postscript, Acrobat Exchange.

Course Schedule:

  • Class Room Briefing and Introductory Sessions at the beginning of the course (2-3 days).

  • Interactive Session through WEB and Email for Two months.

  • Final contact sessions for Three weeks in Third month.

  • Midterm Exam after Third Month.

  • Project Work in Fourth month.

  • Final Exam at end of Fourth Month.

Qualifications & Requirements:

         This Course is open to all Engineering Graduates. Participants are expected to take part in all activities that form part of course in addition the participants should work on individual projects. During course, participants should compulsorily attend to interactive chat session for which some grading will be given. Participants should actively participate in the course for best results. A certificate along with grades will be given to all the successful participants.

Evaluation is Done at Two Levels:

        Concept level and Module level: At concept level, after student goes through each concept, he/she is evaluated online by randomly displaying multiple-choice questions. Each question carries some weightage of marks. Based on his/her test performance, system checks the number of questions he/she has got right, and the performance is evaluated. At Module level, after student completes all the concepts, he/she is given final exam, which will be held at CCE. Concept level evaluation marks will also be considered for grading. Completion of a project is a partial requirement for the course.

Duration and Course Fee:

          This course is designed for 4 months (totally 2+1 credits).

        Course Fee: Rs 9000 (for ISTE Members the Course Fee: Rs 6000).  Number of registrants are restricted to 50 students. Admission is based on first come, first serve basis.

         Applicants must submit a Curriculum Vitae and the application form that includes the following:

  • Description of their current work, if employed or their specialization.
  • An Outline of their individual project: specially skills they gain  in the course
  • how it will be applied in a project that will be helpful in their future career.

        Along with the application the course fee has to be sent in the form of DD only. DD to be drawn in the favour of  ' Registrar, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore ', payable at Bangalore.
